In the UK ISEB (Information Systems Examination Board) part of the British Computer Society (BCS) are running their last public examinations for ITIL Version 2 Service Support and Service Delivery at the end of October 2009. It is believed that due to fallen numbers running such examinations is not cost effective.

 

Nevertheless individuals and organizations should not be deterred from following the ITIL Version 2 Managers education as the Accredited Training Organizations (ATOs) are able to run the examinations privately, providing they book the examinations eight weeks in advance. On reflection this may be more beneficial to course attendees and organizations as they can agree collectively a more appropriate and convenient date and time.

 

In our opinion at ITILnews we believe the existence of written examinations is very important in demonstrating an individuals understanding of ITIL. The conscious move of ITIL version 3 to multiple choice examinations simply erodes the value of the qualification. Secondly, we also recognize the value of the ITIL Version 2 Practitioner courses to both individuals and organizations, as they are targeted at job roles that exist today within many IT organizations around the world. Not only do attendees of such courses recognize the value of the education, but also the organization as the knowledge acquired can begin to be applied immediately.
